security to new levels

One of the company's most important
innovations, the ABLOY PROTEC²CLIQ,
is helping Australian government
organisations and companies across
a range of industries to improve their
security by seamlessly integrating
electronic and mechanical access systems.
'PROTEC²CLIQ has been a game-

organisations to effectively computerise
their traditional mechanical locks without
the expense of changing entire security
systems, or the disruption from removing
and reinstalling locks.'
PROTEC²CLIQ combines ASSA
ABLOY's award-winning ABLOY PROTEC²
technology for mechanical cylinders and
its CLIQ technology into one solution.
The result: an electromechanical keying
system that allows flexible control of
keys, access rights and audit trails -- and
double-secured access control that is
supported by two technologies.
PROTEC²CLIQ helps organisations
overcome the challenge of separate
electronic and mechanical keying
systems. A government-owned asset,
for example, might have an electronic
security system around its perimeter and
hundreds of mechanical locks within the
facility for doors, windows, cabinets and
other storage spaces.
It may be too costly or unnecessary
for a council, for example, to change to full
electronic access for all its locks. But having
hundreds of mechanical locks can create a
security risk if a master key is lost or stolen,
or if it takes weeks to change all cylinders.
Also, the council does not know
which part of a facility was accessed,
by whom, and when, using traditional
mechanical cylinders. With standard keys,
it cannot easily assign or remove access
rights as staff members join or leave the
organisation, or for subcontractors.
'PROTEC²CLIQ provides the best
of both worlds,' says Noakes. 'A council
can upgrade its mechanical cylinders
in a simple, quick process, and have the
benefits of electronic security through
electromechanical keys. It's a powerful
proposition for local governments that
want better security of their assets, and
detailed audit trails of their usage.'
Noakes says that ASSA ABLOY is
receiving more interest from the local
government sector on PROTEC²CLIQ.
'Councils are increasingly aware of
electromechanical keying systems, their
benefits and their role in security risk-
management strategies. They know that
relying on old mechanical cylinders in
higher-risk areas can be problematic.'
PROTEC²CLIQ uses ABLOY's breakthrough
cylinder mechanism design, which
is based on rotating discs instead of
traditional springs and pins, and is
considered by security experts to be the
world's premium high-security keying
system. It requires a moving element in
the key to mate with the cylinder, thus
making it harder to use keys that have
been copied without authorisation. The
system is considered virtually pick-proof.
ABLOY electronic CLIQ Technology,
contained in the key and cylinder,
provides unique identification for
every opening through encrypted
communication. When inserted into the
lock, a buzzer and LED indicators signal
whether or not the key has access.
The browser-based ABLOY CLIQ
Web Manager software provides remote
control of access rights of cylinders and
keys. Access rights in the key can be set
to a time and date, and an administrator
can easily change them remotely. WallPD
or MobilePD units are mounted in parts
of the organisation for the key holders to
update their access rights.
